Sheath phlegmon is an infectious tenosynovitis of the flexor sheaths (digito-palmar). The flexor tendons are surrounded by a synovial sheath which has a mechanical and nutritive role. This sheath houses poorly vascularized, fragile structures and is driven by piston movements which allow the diffusion of synovial fluid. Any germ inoculation is therefore serious and leads to the spread of the infection along the sheath.
