Rectal prolapse is the exteriorization of the rectum through the anus. The repair of this pathology which threatens faecal continence is based on the principle of fixing the rectum to a fixed ooseal point, in this case the promontory. This technique is therefore called promontofixation. It is either an insufficiency of means of fixing the rectum and it then affects rather the young man, or it is a defect of fixation and support of the rectum by dehiscence of the pelvic floor and the sphincter apparatus to which this is more often the case with older women. The operation consists of reattaching the rectum in the pelvic concavity using a strip.
